Adaptive design - We design your website using Adaptive Web Design (AWD). There are
three types of visitors to your website i.e. desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone visitors. Whether they are viewing your website on a laptop, tablet or smartphone, you only have a few seconds to grab their attention and show them what services you offer and in what locations. Therefore, your website must be relevant, with most information ‘above-the-fold’ (see definition below) and it must be fast!
A mobile visitors’ behaviour on a small screen is more about scanning than hard core research. They find what they need and go. Mobile visitors want fast access as they are most likely using their mobile while out and about. Therefore, using AWD, we design a separate smartphone website with dedicated click to call and email buttons that is much much faster!
Adaptive website design versus responsive website design | What is Responsive Web Design? Responsive Web Design (RWD) is a web design approach which ‘stacks’ a website depending on the device the person is using and is a design process used by most other web design companies. This can be a good process for businesses using templates and who can manage a website themselves. There are two main disadvantages for the small business in using RWD: 1. If you’re a small business with no national brand presence, the visitor is less likely to see what you are offering straight away on a tablet or mobile device due to the website being ‘stacked’ and a lot of relevant information being ‘below the fold’. 2. By loading the full website on a smartphone device, it slows down the website on smartphone devices. Therefore, the visitor is less likely to wait and see what you have to offer. That’s why we believe adaptive design is the best approach for our self-employed clients.
So, why do we use adaptive design? Because it’s better for rural Ireland!
Google now uses mobile speed as a ranking factor and it will become an even bigger factor in the near future with Google having stated that it will be a bigger factor from July 2018 when it begins to further roll out it’s new mobile index to more websites. It’s also great from a website visitors point of view. As many of our self-employed clients are based outside the main cities where mobile coverage is slow, our adaptive design process will show the faster mobile version of their website to visitors in these areas. Our mobile websites are designed to have an excellent speed and according to Google tests, they range from 2 to 4 seconds over a 3G mobile network! This is a minimum twice as fast as responsive websites where 70% take over 7 seconds to load! What does ‘Above-the-Fold’ mean? ‘Above-the-Fold’ means that the most important information is shown on the screen when a website visitor first opens your website. This is very important as visitors generally don’t scroll down webpages. It should include everything they need to know including the services you offer, contact details and the areas you provide them in as people may not scroll down a webpage. Google also takes into account the information that is above the fold as being very important for deciding which websites to show people searching for a service on their search engine.
